Our Story
Rachel’s first memory of Seth is not Seth’s first memory of Rachel.
Rachel and Seth met through the Big Red Marching Band at Cornell (nerds). They both played the bass drum, and they stood next to each other on the field for a number of shows.
But Rachel had a problem. Seth was a sophomore and she was in a masters program (eek!). She had no interest in becoming friends with a sophomore, nonetheless dating a sophomore. Rachel did not even pursue friendship with Seth - she only ever used him. Seth would carry a pencil, and Rachel never did. Her only words to him were “Can I borrow your pencil?” for weeks.
Rachel’s feelings towards making friends with a sophomore explain the discrepancy in who remembers who and the setting for these memories.
Seth remembers seeing Rachel on the day of auditions. He thought she was cute, and then learned she was in a masters program and mentally eliminated all opportunities. Rachel first remembers actually talking to Seth at a party weeks later. She was unimpressed - she had to help him open a [redacted]. For some reason, Seth does not remember this interaction.
Eventually Rachel got over the fact that Seth was a sophomore and would speak with him, and they would hang out in a group multiple times a week. Seth and Rachel’s fellow bass drummers, Abbey and TJ, started noticing strange behavior from Seth. Abbey brought up to Rachel that they thought that Seth had developed a crush through months of hanging out, and, as the scientist she is, Rachel decided to test this hypothesis.
At a party, Seth was talking to Rachel when she decided to start the experiment. She would naturally end the conversation, then walk to another part of the room. Each time, Seth would make his way back to her. She did this a few times and this was the outcome each time.
Abbey ran a separate experiment. Rachel had recently acquired a ping pong table, and needed assistance putting it together. She mentioned this around Seth, and Seth said that he would help. Abbey took Seth to Rachel’s townhouse and left him there. Upon so kindly delivering a pizza to two frustrated and tired people after an hour of assembly, she offered to take him back to her apartment where they were all going to hang out later. Seth said no and instead had Rachel drive him down when she went.
After this, TJ and Abbey took on a personal mission to get Rachel and Seth together. TJ tried his hardest to get Seth to admit to the crush, but Seth wouldn’t budge. A move wasn’t made until TJ and Abbey caught COVID and had to back off of Seth. At that time, the move was made and the rest is history.
TLDR;
Cool people can be younger (or older) than you, and you might fall in love with one and get married.
